I'm just going to put this out there right now: I bought this to spin tops on, not for cosmetic usage. But I'll quickly review this for its intended purpose as a grooming tool. This is a perfectly acceptable mirror for grooming/cosmetics. It doesn't any bells or whistles (no LED lights, no swing arm, etc.), but if you have a place where you can set a mirror at roughly face height, this will do the job. The base is cheap and attached with two exposed phillips head screws--so don't expect something that looks super sharp--but is stable and holds the mirror at whatever angle you want. For this price, it's a good mirror. It only has 2x magnification on the concave side, so if you're looking for something that will let you see every minuscule pore, you might want to go to something with 5x magnification. Note: one advantage of having a lower factor of magnification is that there is much less optical distortion. The greater the magnification, the more difficult it is to keep a wider range in focus. But, like I said, I bought this for tops. Cosmetic mirrors are a very common surface to spin tops on because they are 1) tend to be very smooth, 2) are cheap, and 3) are often slightly concave (which help keep the top from spinning off).I bought this mirror because 1) it is cheap, 2) it has a wide 7" base, and 3) it only has a 2x magnification. When it comes to spinning, you want the mirror to be as flat as possible, and 5x mag mirrors are actually slightly less efficient then 2x mag mirrors.I unscrewed the base, which isn't ideal because the screws that hold the base also hold the frame together. So, after removing the base, you have to put the screws back in. It seems like you also need to leave the brackets on, which causes the mirror to be no quite level. I'm going to work on this later and see if I can go bracketless. However, I'm happy to report that this makes an ideal surface for spinning. The glass is smooth, and just concave enough to hold the top unless I have a truly errant and wild spin. Highly recommend for any looking for a good spinning surface.
